Proposed shield law filed in the state legislature

January 29, 2007

A law that would prevent the release the names of confidential sources of reporters in Massachusetts has been filed in the state legislature with several prominent sponsors. The bill, conceived of and drafted by Prince Lobel partner Jeffrey Newman, has resulted in the creation of a committee comprized of representatives from all major media groups in the state, all of whom are supporting and advancing the Bill. Massachusetts is one of just a few states in the entire nation that does not have a "shield" law and recently Governor Deval Patrick voiced his strong support for the filed legislation.
