Prince Lobel Partner Jeffrey A. Newman to Represent Global News Enterprises

International News Service Selects Boston Attorney as Legal Counsel
March 20, 2008

(Boston, MA) — Prince, Lobel, Glovsky & Tye LLP (“Prince Lobel”) Partner Jeffrey A. Newman has been chosen as legal counsel by a new Boston-based, international web-based news service, Global News Enterprises.  The news service, founded by New England Cable News Founder Philip S. Balboni and Amos Hostetter, former Chairman and CEO Of Continental Cablevision, is the first US-based website devoted exclusively to international news.  Newman will handle all media and First Amendment matters, intellectual property, privacy, liability and other related matters for the company.

In his current practice, Newman works with traditional and on-line media companies including television stations and newspapers, as well as web-based media.  A former journalist, Newman is spearheading an effort to pass a reporter’s shield law in Massachusetts, and was recently appointed to The Federal Shield Law Coalition.

“I agree with Phil that the moment is right for this initiative,” said Newman.  "I look forward to working with Phil, and all of the management and staff of Global News in order to help to achieve this lofty vision."

The Executive Editor of Global News is Charles Sennott, a former foreign correspondent for The Boston Globe.  Sennott and fifteen other journalists will head a team of more than 80 correspondents in close to as many nations.  Global News Enterprises will be the first independent, for-profit, international web-based news agency of its kind.  More than $8 million has been raised from investors to date.  The site is expected to launch in early 2009.

As stated in The Boston Globe, “Global News will use wire services for breaking news and rely on correspondents living abroad to provide in-depth enterprise stories on social, political, and economic news, especially from countries that have historically been neglected by the American press, such as Indonesia and South Korea.  The Global News website will feature free content supported by advertising, as well as premium content sections available to users for a modest subscription fee.  The site will offer forums for discussion, and in-depth special reports on major world issues.”
